Partnership Project Pilot

Would you like to learn more about how to create a partnership with another organization? Partnerships are used to extend the services libraries offer and provide opportunities to share resources, collaborate on the development and delivery of programs and services, and reach new groups within the community. In this three-session workshop for teams, you will learn about how to create a successful partnership based on aligned goals. You will also have the opportunity to work with others within your library to begin the partnership development process, and to connect with other California library staff who are also working on this process.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this three-session workshop for teams, you will be able to:

  • Implement best practices for facilitating community conversations
  • Create a partnership agreement
  • Deepen your knowledge of the partnership process, including how to initiate, cultivate, and maintain a healthy partnership
  • Recognize how and why partnerships may end (divorce)

Who Should Apply for the Partnership Project Pilot

This three-session workshop for teams is designed for library staff who will be submitting a grant application with the California State Library (LSTA grants frequently require partnerships), those wanting to develop or expand their existing partnerships, and those for whom partnerships seem daunting.

Up to 25 teams of California public library and law library staff, made up of at least two and a maximum of six people, will have the opportunity to participate in this free three-session workshop, offered through a partnership between California Libraries Learn (CALL), California Center for the Book and the California State Library.

Schedule

During the first two weeks of this three-session workshop for teams, you will participate in two interactive online sessions covering topics including learning about your community and creating and maintaining partnerships. Then, during weeks three through nine, you will work with your team to begin the partnership development process using the skills you gained during the online sessions. During week ten – the final week of the three-session workshop for teams – you will report on your partnership and learn about the other teams’ partnerships. Throughout the three-session workshop for teams, you will have opportunities to consult with instructors during online office hours and connect with other learners on discussion forums.

  • Week 1: Learning About Your Community (facilitation, community conversations, community evaluation, etc.) Live, interactive online session: July 22, 2021, 12:00 PM -1:00 PM Pacific 
  • Week 2: Practical Tips for Creating and Maintaining Partnerships (partnership agreements, initiation, cultivation, stewardship, divorce, etc.) Live, interactive online session: July 29, 12:00 PM -1:00 PM Pacific 
  • Weeks 3-9: Work with your team to develop a partnership
  • Week 10: Culmination (share about your partnership and report on your progress) Live, interactive online session: September 23, 2021, 12:00-2:00 PT
