Book to Action initiatives are launching soon in libraries across California. We are excited to announce the Book to Action 2021: SUSTAINABILITY projects.  Book to Action 2021 initiatives tackle important issues in the community and encourage reading, community discussion, and action. Book to Action initiatives, aimed at adults and intergenerational groups, also focus on building sustainable community partnerships, encouraging civic engagement, and supporting collaborative efforts between library staff and communities across the state. We invite all Californians to learn more about the Book to Action 2021: Sustainability titles, community partnerships, and program plans.

Book to Action 2021 Special Event

Please save the date for a very special conversation with Josh Tickell, environmental thought leader and award winning director and author of Kiss the Ground. The event will explore ways Californians can come together and make both individual and collective change for a more sustainable future. A virtual conversation is scheduled for Thursday, April 22 (Earth Day) from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. Participating libraries and community members will be invited to join others across the state for this special event. More information and registration will be shared soon.

Book to Action 2021 Toolkit

Library staff and community partners are invited to explore and contribute to the Book to Action 2021 toolkit. The toolkit contains examples of community partners and connections, links to documentaries with discussion and action guides, and more. The Book to Action 2021 webinars on topics such as community partnerships, planning for evaluation, and more are available on the main Book to Action page and on our YouTube channel.

About California Center for the Book

Our mission is to help the librarians of California get their communities reading and connecting. We help librarians develop and expand programs that promote reading, community engagement, and lifelong learning for adults and intergenerational groups. We also offer professional development opportunities and share resources to help librarians and community partners achieve these goals. We value resource sharing, collaboration, community-building, and innovation.

California Center for the Book is a program of the California Library Association, supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
