Chula Vista Public Library’s Book to Action is one to watch. The entire program has been re-worked and re-imagined into an interactive and social media savvy series. Their featured title The Nature Fix: why nature makes us happier, healthier, and more creative by Florence Williams was featured in a Book to Action to-go kit along with a nature scavenger hunt, seed bomb kit, seed samples, and activities that all ages and physical activity levels can enjoy. The Book to Action series encourages the community to embrace the many benefits of nature and includes local hiking information, a flower mandala tutorial, information about victory gardens, an iNaturalist tutorial, interactive book discussions hosted in Instagram stories, supporting story times, and much more. One of the participants summed it up nicely: Literature. Seeds. Projects. Knowledge.
See the program announcement on Instagram and the image below which features both posts and community re-shares. Be sure to follow Chula Vista Library on Instagram and Facebook for the latest Book to Action program info.

About Book to Action
Book to Action is a framework that takes the basic book club concept and expands it to create a dynamic series of events for adults and intergenerational groups. Librarians work closely with a community partner to develop a series of programs. Community members read and discuss an engaging book on a current topic, attend author or speaker events, and put their new-found knowledge into action by participating in a community service project or civic engagement activity related to the book.
