Upland Public Library‘s 2020 Book to Action series is based on Jason Reynold‘s Long Way Down. The library is partnering with local high schools and Get Lit, a local nonprofit that uses poetry to increase literacy, empower youth, and inspire communities. The Upland Public Library Book to Action series will take place online and includes a poetry workshop with Get Lit, a poetry slam with Get Lit, and a community book discussion of Long Way Down. Upland Public Library cardholders can access digital copies (eBook and eAudio) of Long Way Down on Overdrive / Libby. The library highly recommends the audiobook, which is narrated by the author. All events are ages 13+ and require an RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
About Book to Action – Book to Action is a framework that takes the basic book club concept and expands it to create a dynamic series of events for adults and intergenerational groups. Librarians work closely with a community partner to develop a series of programs. Community members read and discuss an engaging book on a current topic, attend author or speaker events, and put their new-found knowledge into action by participating in a community service project or civic engagement activity related to the book.
