Rural Libraries Tour Ties Into CSU Chico’s Book in Common

Author Tim Z Hernandez’s All They Will Call You is the featured title for the 2018-2019 CSU Chico Book in Common series, bringing Tim to Northern California for a short time. Thanks to local staff, libraries will also host Tim for three special visits and writing workshops this March 11 and 12 as part of the Rural Libraries Tour. The Rural Libraries Tour, a partnership between California Center for the Book and Poets & Writers, currently funds writing workshops for adults and intergenerational groups at more than a dozen rural libraries throughout California.

  • 3/11/2019, 6:30pm-8:30pm – Colusa County – Colusa County Free Library, Main Library
  • 3/12/2019, 2:30pm-4:30pm – Shasta County – Shasta Public Libraries, Redding Branch 
  • 3/12/2019, 6pm-8pm – Tehama County – Tehama County Library, Red Bluff Branch 

About Tim Z Hernandez

Tim Z. Hernandez is a writer and performance artist. He is the recipient of an American Book Award for poetry, the Colorado Book Award for poetry, and the International Latino Book Award for historical fiction. His work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and National Public Radio. Named one of sixteen New American Poets by the Poetry Society of America, he was a finalist for the inaugural Split This Rock Freedom Plow Award for his work on locating the victims of the 1948 plane wreck at Los Gatos Canyon, the incident made famous by Woody Guthrie’s song of the same name. The result of this work is the basis for his newly released book, All They Will Call You (University of Arizona Press). Hernandez holds a B.A. from Naropa University and an M.F.A. from Bennington College. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas El Paso’s Bilingual M.F.A.
