Discover Great Places Through Reading

In 2018, California Center for the Book & the California State Library are again sharing the latest Beatty award winner at the National Book Festival in Washington D.C. The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives by Dashka Slater will be one of a handful of featured titles we recommend to an estimated 100,000+ visitors. How do we choose? We rely on the expertise of California Library Association’s John and Patricia Beatty Award Committee. We feature the Beatty Award winner and titles from the Eureka! bibliography. Stay tuned to the Beatty award page and to our website for more information!

More About the Center for the Book Parade of the States at the National Book Festival

Every year, a list of books representing the literary heritage of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands is distributed by the Library of Congress’s Center for the Book during the National Book Festival. Each book is selected by a Center for the Book state affiliate or state library and most are for children and young readers. Books may be written by authors from the state, take place in the state, or celebrate the state’s culture and heritage. Why not read the book suggested for your state or district and then learn, through these books, about the other places that interest you?

Lists (2018 coming soon) available at on a state to view suggested titles by state, or download the complete lists.
